Well first, off we got a Free desert for checking in on YELP! Major points for that one. And I was buying my friend a b-day dinner before our NYE Show, our last meal of 2013 better make it good right, so we indulged on Veggie Samosa's, rice, 2 dinner orders and he got Naan. First off the Samosa's were incredible and come in orders of 3, so there were 6 on the table for two people don't worry we cleaned our plates! My friend Chris ordered veggie Okra that looked amazing and he said it was, I had Chana Masala which was a little watery for my taste but I have had worse and the Samosa's were so good I can't really complain. The service was second to none, and the bathroom was super clean and did I mention I got to give my B-day buddy a free desert which was some sort of Cream of Wheat thing, but he loved it! So Success on great last meal of 2013 and it was all under 35 bucks with 25% tip.. Not to shabby!

When I moved away from Cedar Falls I never imagined that there would be one, let alone multiple, Indian restaurants in the area a little over a decade later. Not only are there options, but there are some really good ones! Masala is a nice little spot. The service was a little underwhelming, but the food was fantastic and the prices were lower than I am used to. My meal consisted of vegetable samosa as an appetizer, naan, and Malai Kofta for my entree. The samosa was crispy, flavorful, and HUGE. Very satisfying, but the best part was the chutney that came with them. The best I have had anywhere. The Malai Kofta was also some of the best I have had, and very different from how it has been prepared at most restaurants I have gone too. I ordered it "medium spicy" which ended up being pretty nice, but actually fairly mild for what I normally prepare myself for at most Indian restaurants. Here in Madison a lot of people order their food "wisconsin mild" because just saying mild ends up with something that is too much for them to handle! Anyway, the sauce was rich and packed with flavor and the koftas were ridiculously amazing. So much flavor, people! The Naan was delicious, but unfortunately it did not come out until I was almost finished with my meal. It was SUPER puffy, chewy, and buttery. Very good. Overall, this is a great spot and I will definitely go back next time I am in CF!

I was traveling to Dubuque after doing some mountain biking near Webster City and hoped to find some tasty ethnic cuisine in Cedar Falls rather than hit up any number of Subways along the interstate. Well Yelp and Mirch Masala did not disappoint and I was pleasantly rewarded for my short detour. The spicy baby goat dish was cooked and seasoned extremely well. The rice served with it was good but really just something to soak up those goat juices. I also got a side of Naan which was also very good. Probably would have gotten the garlic Naan if it wasn't a dollar more. Two things I think could improve the experience. 1) allow customers to substitute Naan for the rice at no extra charge 2) water from the fountain machine had an off putting flavor. Perhaps this is a Cedar Falls thing but all said and done the meal was around $15+tip so I'd expect better tasting water at no charge.

The food is ok. I was just visiting my friend in Cedar Falls and decided to give this restaurant a try. Staffs are nice and the restaurant is clean. However, I have tried many Indian and Pakistani food in other regions and the food at Mirch Masala Grill is simply OK.

The food was ok especially considering location, though it It took this restaurant fifteen minutes of discussion between myself and the three staff to get them to accept the yelp voucher. They claimed first not to accept it, then offered me a free desert, then a free entree ($9), and finally the $15 I was due. Beware of the voucher.

Whenever I visit this area, I always get my food packed from here. Lots of it as it keeps us fed for a couple days cause where we are there are no desi restaurants close by. I specially like their non-vegetarian dishes of which they are definitely experts. Also their gajar ka halwa and kheer is very good. They are usually very busy but try to be friendly which is also great.

By far one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. Great food, great service, very reasonable prices, convenient location. I'm just sad I'm not from here and won't have access to the wonderfulness that is this restaurant - I envy you, people of cedar falls. Luckily I didn't finish my generous portion of butter chicken and will get to have more for breakfast!

Stopped here for a late lunch. Wonderful food and service. Appetizers are great. Try the spring rolls and cream puffs. Even the rice is good.

I have been here technically twice. The first time was mediocre. Food was in fact very decent so I can see why ppl give 4 stars (5 stars are u kidding me?!), but service was like fXxxing slow consider we were the only people there at the time. The whole place smelt like gas, and still does this time. This round they have some sort of pump going on underground, so it shook the whole time we sat there. We went into the place, it wasn't packed but we saw a lot of delivery going on as it was lunch time. After a while we got menu, no water or anything. As we read the menu for about 5 minutes, another couple ladies came in. After about 10 minutes, the ladies got greeted and food ordered, and the dude just left without realizing we were there, did as much visual contact as possible. We finally couldn't waste our time no more inhaling the deadly gas, and had to leave. Never come back again.

Ok, now, these guys are absolutely awesome. Friendly, courteous and their food is STUNNING. Were driving from Chicago to Columbua Falls, MT and I found this restaurant on Yelp. Decided to try it out on the way. Ended up arriving around 10 pm. Their kitchen is open till 10:30 so I had called ahead of time to see if they might accomodate us. They were cool about it. Upon arrival, we ordered a chicken dish and 2 vegetarian dishes along with 2 plates of samosas. Living in Chicago, we do have great Indian food but of course, as a person who has lived in India for a few years, I have always felt we in this country just "settle" for ok Indian food. Not here. The food here was just absolutely delicious. The chicken was not at all dry like you find at normal Indian restaurants. I had the chicken handi which was bursting with flavor. We also ordered malai kofta and palak paneer; both of which were awesome too. This place truly has flavors you would find in home cooked food. Can't wait to get back here again someday.

I ate dinner last night here with 2 Indian vegetarians. We all found stuff we liked, and agreed that the food was good. The portions were large, and you can vary the spiciness of most dishes (low, medium, or high). It's in a very nice spot by the UNI campus, I will likely be back next time I'm in town.

A favorite! On my first visit the awesome waiter recommended the malai kofta and it's still my favorite. (I've ordered the same dish at Taste of India and didn't like it at all). The garlic naan is so yum, the pakora and samosas are good and spicy. Not fancy, but pleasant and clean and really great service. The food comes fast and is inexpensive and delicious. I highly recommend! Also it's one of only two to three places in the area that have a halal menu, my Muslim friends are faced with a very limited variety around here, but they definitely frequent this place. It's been a tremendous addition to the area. Now we have great Indian and Pakistani food, I'm still hoping for a falafel house and a hookah bar. :)

Good food, I got the lunch buffet. However I suffered awful food poisoning afterwards. I will not return.

I am uber envious that there is a Pakistani restaurant in Cedar Falls and none in the Twin Cities. Well I had the opportunity to try this place on my trip to this city and was glad that I did. My favorites at this place are the Chappli Kabab and the BBQ Roll with Seekh Kabab. Both were truly great. The staff at the restaurant was really kind to us when me and my family visited. We also drank the karak chai with Carrot Halwa at the end. Super delicious. They have a seating/decor problem and I encourage the owners to revamp it. A lot of space is taken by the serving counter and there are too many things that they are trying to sell. If the space was used more efficiently they could seat lot more people in this location. The bathrooms was very clean. The service was really good and the food was excellent. Definietly worth a try for sure

Definitely the best Indian food I've had in the Cedar Valley, if not the best Indian food I've had in the States to date. Friendly staff, good service, traditional decor although not trying to being overly ethnic make this hidden gem a must visit if you're in our around the Cedar Falls area and are craving some South Asian cuisine. Totally worth the 20 minute drive from Waterloo back and forth. The onion kulcha, Chicken biryani and Mango lassi are my absolute faves

EXCELLENT! ! If you're looking for authentic Indian try this place. I had chicken handi and it was very tender and full of rich flavors. We also tried samosa., garlic naan, malai kofta and alo baigan. All very good and highly recommend! We plan to be back to try their weekday noon buffet.

5 stars. This place has the best authentic Indian food around. There spices are top notch and the serving sizes will have you taking some home for later. After traveling abroad this summer, I came home and had to try this place out as quickly as possible. Sure enough, it succeeded any expectations I had and more. The service was impeccable, as the employees give you space and social time, yet the personal environment allows them to "read" customers in order for the service to be done in a timely manner. I have and will continue to recommend this place to anyone.

The food was very good. This was our first time so Hammad helped us with excellent choices for our combo plate and made sure everything was good. We definitely will be back!

I have been eating here weekly, sometimes several days in a row for over a year now and have always had a fabulous food experience from here. They make the most authentic, flavorful and hearty food in the area. I really appreciate their food and will continue to come here, they are my absolute favorite! Their prices are very very good, and it's definitely a clean and happy place.

I had the palak paneer. It smelled and tasted wonderful. I also had the garlic naan, which was equally as delicious. The service was polite and prompt.

Wow! That was a great meal, great service, low price. There is nothing fancy about this place, in fact, it is about a simple as it gets. Situated on "College Hill" inches from the University of Northern Iowa this is a popular place. It is very small store front restaurant with only a few tables and limited decorating. But, let's face it, you are not here for the atmosphere. We had the veggie Okra, naan, and chicken all of which were excellent and served fast and hot by the very helpful waiter. This is now our favorite place to eat in the Cedar Valley.

wonderful food! It's made fresh. Friendly servers, if you are not sure what to order, ask them. Everything I've had was wonderful. I suggest going for the buffet.

Stopped here for the lunch buffet. The food has tremendous flavor. If you want lots of colorful spices popping at you and not too hot (spicy), this is your place. Very affordable $9.99 buffet 11-2pm. Would have given 5 stars but a couple things they can improve: 1) keep the warmers a little hotter as the food was warm and not hot, like it should be. 2) be careful of chicken bone fragments. You may chip a tooth if you're not paying attention. I noticed this in a chicken rice dish they had and I came across several bone fragments. Definitely comes across as authentic, I'm sure. I would personally change that to limit a law suit if someone needs to get dental surgery. Overall, I recommend you try this place. Yum!

Naan was yummy! Mutton was delicious! I can't recall the other item that we had but it was great! Service was wonderful! Do not pass up on this little Indian diner!

I could wax poetically but I'll keep it simple and to the point: I travel extensively and have enjoyed Afghan, Pakistani, and Indian food in-country and all over the U.S. I am very pleased to say that the food that I've tried so far (chicken makhani, Alo Baingan, garlic and plain naan, and chai (with milk)) were all VERY good. The service was friendly and brisk despite the off hour (3:00 PM). They were able to nicely match heat level to my personal taste (closer to typical southern Indian levels) and my mother's (first Pakistani food experience ever typical older Iowa white-bread American). BTW. My Mom LOVED it! :-). I can't recommend this place highly enough!

The Masala Grill is a new place in town right by the University of Northern Iowa campus. The dining room is small with room for only 5 booths. You can ignore the atmosphere because the food is awesome. It's tastier and much cheaper than the more upscale Taste of India about 1 mile away. I had the grilled Chicken Sashlick which was tasty and filling. The Samosas were fresh and to die for. The butter chicken was creamy and had the right amount of spice. Don't expect your food to come out quickly as it looks like dishes are prepared fresh. On the other hand, the service is haphazard. For example, the appetizers came out with my entree. Getting water, napkins and refills on the drinks seems to be a chore as well. Also, the menus have no descriptions of the food making ordering difficult. They should hire an experienced wait staff to come up with some procedures for developing menus and serving customers. Despite the lack of polish in service, the staff here are very friendly and welcome your business. All in all, this will be my go-to place for Indian food.

This was absolutely the worst Indian meal that i have had here. I have eaten here a few times within the past few months, and it was really good. The meal was horrendous. Most of it was not edible. I think that they figured out that you don't have to have that high standards to make money right next to a University. I will never go here again.

Wow, surprised to find good Pakistani food in Iowa. Butter chicken was very good. Naan could be better , but overall a really good meal.

I give this place one star because it is an ethnic restaurant in Cedar Falls (and those are few in number), and because the naan was pretty good. The place is dirty, the service some of the worst I've ever encountered, and the food is barely edible. We love Indian food but this was YUCK. They were out of ingredients for our preferred dishes, so a good bit of the menu was unavailable. The tables, chairs, and floor at several empty tables were covered in rice and dried food, but the sole waiter/host just sat on his stool and stared out the window (literally) instead of cleaning them, so we had to sit at a semi-clean table right next to the door during a blizzard. When I nicely asked him to modify the music (the first three songs played after our arrival may have had a couple of non-profane words, but I didn't hear them because I was busy trying to distract my kids), he shrugged and rolled his eyes and changed the song on his iPod to another slightly less profane one. There were several kids in the restaurant (in addition to mine). When he spilled chutney all over our table and salt shaker, he didn't even attempt to clean it up. And to top it off, he included gratuity in the total of our bill without telling us (I am fine with including gratuity, but firmly believe that it should be noted). Apparently, that's their policy for a party of 4...probably the ONLY way they can get gratuities given their level of service.
